Jones scores 19 in Mavs summer debut
Former USF guard Dominique Jones scored a game-high 19 points in his pro debut, leading the Dallas Mavericks in an 88-70 loss to the Denver Nuggets in the NBA Summer League in Las Vegas.
Jones went 5-for-13 from the field and 9-for-12 on free throws, with four rebounds, zero assists and five turnovers in a team-high 34 minutes. The Mavericks struggled as a team, trailing by 20 at halftime in their opening game in Vegas.
Jones and second-year guard Roddy Beaubois will be jockeying for minutes in the same backcourt this season, and Jones had better numbers Friday, as Beaubois, playing more of a point guard role this week, went 3-for-16 with one assist and six turnovers to finish with 12 points.
Dallas plays again Saturday night, with a game against the Houston Rockets.
