Juco guard Parghalava to sign with Bulls
Lasha Parghalava, a 6-foot-2 shooting guard from Pensacola Junior College, is expected to sign with USF on Monday according to his college coach, giving Stan Heath a second piece to his 2007-08 recruiting class.
Parghalava, who was born in the eastern European nation of Georgia, played at Florida Air Academy for high school and is now in his second year as a starter at Pensacola. He's averaging about 14 points a game in helping Pensacola to a 5-2 start this season. He also has played for Georgia's under-20 national team.
"He's an excellent shooter, a very good athlete," Pensacola coach Paul Swanson said. "He can defend 94 feet, he can shoot the 3 and he can take the ball to the basket."
Parghalava, who weighs 175 pounds, is the second member of Heath's incoming class, joining Eladio Espinosa, a 6-foot-7 forward from Norlina, N.C., who is playing this season at Hargrave Military Academy in Virginia. There's a short Q&A with him on Eurobasket.com, a great site that tracks European basketball players.
