Land O'Lakes QB Weatherford commits to USF
USF has picked up its first quarterback commitment toward the Class of 2011, as Land O'Lakes quarterback Stevie Weatherford committed on Friday, according to the Times' Izzy Gould.
Weatherford -- USF's sixth commitment overall -- will join his two brothers as college quarterbacks in the state of Florida -- Drew played at Florida State, and Joe played at Central Florida before transferring this spring to West Georgia.
USF was the first school to offer Weatherford a scholarship -- he told the Times he also considered Cincinnati and East Carolina before choosing the Bulls. Weatherford was a first-team selection to the Times' All-Suncoast team in 2009 after passing for 2,052 yards and 27 touchdowns with only five interceptions as a junior.
Weatherford is rated as a three-star recruit by Rivals.com, which also ranks him as the nation's No. 25 quarterback for his class. He's a two-star recruit by Scout.com's ratings.
USF coach Skip Holtz has said he hopes to sign two quarterbacks in February to build better depth at the position -- the Bulls will have only two scholarship quarterbacks this fall in starter B.J. Daniels, a sophomore, and backup Jamius Gunsby, a true freshman.
