Lawson not enough as USF falls to Rutgers
Bulls senior center Jessica Lawson had a career-high 33 points to go with 10 rebounds, but the supporting cast wasn't there Sunday as USF's women's basketball team took a tough 60-52 loss to Rutgers in the Sun Dome.
Lawson surpassed her previous high by seven points, but the rest of the team struggled offensively, going 1-for-16 on 3-point attempts. Senior guard Janae Stokes had just three points on 1-for-8 shooting.
The Bulls (13-9, 4-5) led 45-43 with 5:47 to play, but Rutgers (13-10, 5-4) scored the next six points to take control.
Lawson's 33 points ties her for the 14th-best game in USF women's basketball history, and the most points by a Bulls player since Shantia Grace went for a school-record 44 against Coppin State last season.
