Leavitt on Buie: 'I would have run him out also'
USF's guards were working out in the Sun Dome on Monday afternoon, and the one player I couldn't place was leading them through a variety of drills: New Orleans Hornets guard Antonio Daniels, who just finished his 12th season in the NBA and has known Stan Heath since he played for him as an assistant at Bowling Green.
In Heath's first season, we wrote about the close bond between Heath and Daniels, and how former Bowling Green coach Jim Larranaga points to that bond when he thinks about the relationship Heath has with his players.
Ask Heath about the coaching debate from the end of Thursday's Magic-Lakers game -- do you foul before a shot when you're up three in the closing seconds -- and Heath's already had the same discussion with Daniels. And over the weekend, Heath debated the issue with Celtics coach Doc Rivers, who was in the Sun Dome because his son, Austin, was playing in USF's team camp. (Austin, a rising junior at Winter Park, is committed to Florida.)
Anyway, we caught up with Heath about his new coaching staff -- we'll have Q&As up shortly with assistants Eric Skeeters and Jeremy Cox -- the challenge of choosing those assistants and whether all the incoming recruits will be on campus by the end of the month. You can read the full Q&A here.
