Leavitt: Freshman TE Virgin cleared by NCAA

Freshman tight end Isaac Virgin, one of four freshmen held out of Monday's practice as they awaited word from the NCAA Clearinghouse, has been cleared, coach Jim Leavitt said Tuesday.

Leavitt, writing on his page, said that "IV cleared today. That is good news waiting on the rest." That leaves defensive ends Ryne Giddins and Julius Forte and running back Bradley Battles in limbo on the second day of fall classes at USF. Leavitt said Monday that he felt "very positive" about all four being cleared.

Stay tuned for more after practice, which is scheduled to end around 6 p.m., weather permitting ...

-- Don't mean to agitate the UCF fans by mentioning the Knights too much on a USF blog, but found this amusing just from a general football perspective: UCF coach George O'Leary, talking about last year's 4-8 record, tells that he predicts the team's record each year and last season he "was pretty much right last year except it was reversed." So aside from thinking he'd win as many games as he actually wound up losing, he nailed it. He's admitting the team won four fewer games than he expected, but says it's "media-driven" to consider the season disappointing.
