Links and reminder: Fan Fest is Saturday

We'll start with a public service announcement -- USF's annual Fan Fest is Saturday at Raymond James Stadium from 3 to 6 p.m., with a chance to hear from coach Jim Leavitt and USF's top players and get autographs as well. The Bulls have a closed scrimmage on Saturday morning, and we'll ask lots of people what happened there and pass it along to you. Headed over for the end of Friday's practice shortly, but first a few links ...

--'s Big East blogger, Brian Bennett, has his preseason all-conference team -- USF is shut out on offense, but defensive end George Selvie and safety Nate Allen make the team on defense. Could Rutgers really have three of the league's top five offensive linemen? I'll be more impressed if those three are on the postseason team ...

-- One more Fan Fest deal -- USF is doing a cool thing called a Twitter Scavenger Hunt, with prizes available to fans who follow @USFfootball and @USFathletics on Twitter with messages sent to their cellphones. You'll get fun tweets that say "Find the bald guy with the goatee and ask him for more coverage" and stuff like that. You can always follow this blog on Twitter.

-- Newsday picks USF as a "dark horse" to win the Big East. They don't list USF among three "contenders" but like the Bulls' chances. "It's very possible for South Florida to lose just one conference game and split the Florida State/Miami games. That would be a 10-2 season," they write.

-- The Miami Herald picks up the Associated Press USF season preview story, focusing on the pursuit of a stronger finish to the season after dropoffs the past two years.
