After missing his rookie season with a knee injury, former USF linebacker Tyrone McKenzie has turned heads already as the Patriots open preseason camp, thanks to a monster hit on running back Laurence Maroney on Friday.

The buzz surrounding his tackle was enough to lead notebooks in the Boston Globe and the Boston Herald, and the Worcester Telegram writes that he's making a case to be a starter at inside linebacker. Patriots.com writes that McKenzie's hit was "reminiscent of Ted Johnson's heyday."

-- USF football coach Skip Holtz is pleased by the turnout for the Bulls' first Ladies Clinic, which is being held today in the Sun Dome, with more than 200 women signed up for the daylong event.

Holtz had a similar clinic each year at East Carolina, but when he thinks about how big the event can become, he goes back to his days coaching with his father Lou at South Carolina, where the clinic was popular enough that more than 1,600 women signed up for it one summer.

-- USF women's soccer, which will have a new keeper this fall after the graduation of Mallori Lofton-Malachi, picked up a late addition in goal as Wisconsin's Hannah Jasurda announced she'll be playing for the Bulls.
