Links: USF is 'shocking' pick to win Big East
I'm finishing up our USF season preview, which will run in Monday's newspaper, but want to share a handful of links collected since last night ...
-- Foxsports.com says USF will win the Big East. Yes, it's in the context of a "10 shocking college football scenarios" slideshow -- they preface it by saying "the odds are against these situations actually ever happening." Other things right in there with USF winning the Big East: Miami not making a bowl, Tennessee knocking off Florida in Gainesville and Stanford winning the Pac-10, and Vols safety Eric Berry winning the Heisman. "We're not saying these scenarios will actually occur, but they could," they write. "Reaching? Yes. Impossible? Never."
-- No surprise that a Gators blogger isn't upset that Jim Leavitt voted Florida No. 2, but rather than Florida State was ranked as high as No. 10. He's right, though, that West Virginia can certainly be motivated at being voted as the fifth-best Big East team (or worse) on Leavitt's ballot.
-- College basketball! Yahoo Sports (I can't bring myself to acknowledge the exclamation point) offers an early power rankings for Big East basketball. "It’s difficult to imagine the Bulls not making significant improvement," writes Jason King, who then proceeds to rank the Bulls ... one spot higher than they finished last season. Go ahead and update that logo, too ...
-- Jim Leavitt leads off a story in the Republican-American about Twitter and how it's used in college football. How can you tell the writer doesn't use Twitter himself? He writes that tweets are limited to 140 words instead of 140 characters. I'll remind you guys you can follow this blog at Twitter.com/gregauman.
-- The Bradenton Herald's Ryan T. Boyd has posted a USF season preview.
