Men's hoops adds Vegas trip to schedule
USF men's basketball has released its nonconference schedule for 2009-10, with the newest addition a trip to the Jerry Tarkanian Tournament in Las Vegas, where they'll face San Francisco (USF vs. USF!) and San Diego.
The rest of the Bulls' opponents have been known, so the news is the dates games will be played -- USF opens the season on the road at SMU in Dallas on Nov. 13, then has its home opener against Virginia on Nov. 16 as part of a doubleheader with women's basketball.
USF will play at least three games in the Charleston Classic in South Carolina, as part of a field that also includes Miami, Penn State, South Carolina, Tulane, La Salle and UNC-Wilmington.
The Bulls then have a five-game homestand, with Florida Atlantic on Nov. 27 (the night before the USF-Miami football game), Hampton on Dec. 2, Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 5, Central Michigan on Dec. 13 and Central Florida on Dec. 15.
USF has tentatively scheduled a home exhibition against Florida Southern on Nov. 3, and the team will have a closed scrimmage at Jacksonville on Nov. 7 -- that's not open to the public.
Point guard Anthony Crater, who transferred from Ohio State at midseason last year, becomes eligible on Dec. 12, so by these dates, he would have to sit out the first eight games.
Best I can tell, there's only one home game that will have a conflict with a road football game -- I'll miss the Florida Gulf Coast game because football plays at Connecticut the same day ...
