Men's hoops start: 3 home games, 3 arenas, 5 days
USF unveiled its men's basketball nonconference schedule for 2011-12 on Wednesday, and with the Sun Dome undergoing renovations, the Bulls will open the season with a run of three home games in three different venues in a span of five days.
The Bulls open the season Nov. 12 against Vermont at the University of Tampa's Bob Martinez Center, then play Marist on Nov. 14 in the St. Pete Times Forum, then play at the Lakeland Center against Division II Florida Southern on Nov. 16. In all, the Bulls will play three games at UT and three at the Times Forum. The sites for USF's nine home Big East games have yet to be announced.
The Sun Dome has just started with a $35 million renovation that's expected to take until April or May, meaning the Bulls are planning to play all their home games off campus. USF will play at least one traditional powerhouse for the first time, with a trip to Kansas on Dec. 3; the Bulls could also play Kentucky for the first time in the second round of a tournament in November.
The full nonconference schedule: November -- 12 -- Vermont (UT); 14 -- Marist (Times Forum); 16 -- Florida Southern (Lakeland Center); 19 -- Old Dominion (at Uncasville, Conn.); 20 -- Kentucky or Penn State (at Uncasville, Conn.); 23 -- Georgia Southern (Times Forum); 26 -- Florida Atlantic (UT); 30 -- at VCU. December -- 3 -- at Kansas, 11 -- Florida A&M (UT); 15 -- at Auburn; 19 -- Cleveland State (Times Forum).
