Men's hoops unveils nonconference schedule

USF men's basketball has announced its nonconference basketball schedule for the upcoming season, a 13-game primer for Big East play that opens Nov. 12 with a home game against Southern Miss.

That's the night before USF football plays at Louisville, so barring a night kickoff there, I'll probably have to miss the opener, but the Bulls are back home on Nov. 15 against St. Francis (Pa.). There are two in-state road games, at Central Florida on Nov. 18 and at Florida Atlantic on Dec. 4, the latter the same day as football's regular-season finale against Connecticut.

The home slate also includes Georgia Southern and Liberty on Nov. 21 and 23 in the opening rounds of the South Padre Island Invitational, where the Bulls should have their toughest competition -- against BYU on Nov. 27 and potentially against another NCAA team, St. Mary's (or Texas Tech) the day before. USF coach Stan Heath has a nod to his Arkansas days with a home game against Auburn on Dec. 15, and a return to his first head coaching job with a Dec. 12 trip to Kent State. Here's the full schedule -- the Big East dates are supposedly not far off as well.

Nov. 12 -- Southern Miss

Nov. 15 -- St. Francis (Pa.)

Nov. 18 -- at Central Florida

Nov. 21 -- Georgia Southern

Nov. 23 -- Liberty

Nov. 26 -- St. Mary's or Texas Tech (in South Padre Island)

Nov. 27 -- BYU (in South Padre Island)

Dec. 1 -- VCU

Dec. 4 -- at Florida Atlantic

Dec. 12 -- at Kent State

Dec. 15 -- Auburn

Dec. 18 -- James Madison

Dec. 22 -- at Cleveland State
