Men's soccer advances, hosts Big East semis

USF's men's soccer team knew it had a potentially huge advantage this season in hosting the Big East semifinals and championship on its home field -- the challenge for the Bulls was making sure they advanced to the conference's final four to take advantage of that.

The Bulls got two goals from senior Jordan Seabrook to hold off Georgetown 2-1 on Sunday to advance to Friday night's semifinals at USF Soccer Stadium against Notre Dame. St. John's and DePaul meet in the first semifinal at 5 p.m., with the Bulls and Irish following at 7:30 p.m. Friday's winners meet Sunday at noon for the Big East crown.

USF and Notre Dame have similar national rankings, but the Bulls will be looking to get revenge for their most lopsided loss of the season, a 5-0 drubbing at Notre Dame. The Bulls have only allowed 11 goals all season, thanks to a veteran defense and stellar play by keeper Jeff Attinella, who did not play in the first meeting with the Irish.

We'll have more on USF's men's soccer team and its pursuit of a Big East title later this week ...
