New look revealed at USF Fashion, er, Fan Fest
We'll start with the uniforms, which were unveiled at USF's annual Fan Fest gathering at Raymond James Stadium -- not long after the new unis were revealed, it started monsooning for the rest of the two-hour window, spoiling a strong turnout of USF fans.
The biggest change is the addition of a green helmet with gold logo, modeled here by defensive end Ryne Giddins. There are tweaks to other uniform combinations -- the white uniforms have green numbers with gold borders, the green uniforms have thin gold-and-white stripes along the front of the shoulders, and on the whole, the four players modeling the new look -- B.J. Daniels, Evan Landi, Giddins and Sam Barrington -- seemed to like, well, how tight they were.
"I love them. They're really a tight fit. I actually needed help trying to get my jersey on," said Daniels, who doesn't want to give defenders any help as they try to bring him down. "There's nothing extra to grab."
Barrington was asked if the new uniforms might help in recruiting (!) and said yes, in fact, they would. "From our perspective, it probably plays not much of a role. We're happy for it. As far as recruiting, I know a high school kid would definitely be attracted to new uniforms."
Daniels said he likes all three helmets enough that he couldn't decide which one he wants USF to wear in South Bend on Sept. 3.
"If it were up to me, I'd switch every quarter," he said.
