New question: Can U Find My Head?

Selvieboard_3 What, you ask, could be more intimidating than defensive end George Selvie coming unblocked at a quarterback? Perhaps a headless Selvie, 20 feet tall and missing some fingers.

That's what motorists driving southbound on Interstate 275 have seen on the east side of the road, just south of Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard. It's not an act of Tropical Storm Fay, so much as an action taken in anticipation of the storm's heavy winds.

Bulls assistant athletic director Ayo Taylor-Dixon said USF got a call Monday notifying them that because the "Can U Feel It? season-ticket billboards extend above the normal shape of the sign, they can only withstand winds of up to 50 mph. So with Fay potentially headed toward Tampa, the tops of the billboards -- in this case, Selvie's head and Bulls-sign fingers -- were removed as a precaution. (The entire Jim Leavitt billboard on I-275 northbound near I-4 was taken down because it's closer to the interstate itself).

The good news? Selvie should be back to his old self very soon, along with the other remaining billboards. And as Taylor-Dixon points out, the headless factor might actually draw more passers-by to notice the USF billboards. See, this whole storm was all part of a larger plan ... (and yes, I took the pic myself, continuing a tradition of fine billboard photography. Thanks to Mike Camunas for the tip.)
