As NFL rosters settle, 18 ex-Bulls in camps
The number continues to fluctuate up and down, but as of Saturday night, there are 18 former USF football players battling for roster spots in NFL preseason camps. Obviously that number will drop between now and the start of the NFL season on Sept. 11 as teams make cuts, but it should be higher than the 11 who played during the 2010 season.
Others could soon join the list -- linebacker Kawika Mitchell is likely to find a team after missing much of 2010 with injuries, and receiver Taurus Johnson and running back Chad Simpson were cut loose by the Redskins this week but could latch on elsewhere. Here's the rundown of which players are where, alphabetically:
VETERANS: Nate Allen (Eagles), Marc Dile (Bucs), Mike Jenkins (Cowboys), Tyrone McKenzie (Bucs), Carlton Mitchell (Browns), Jerome Murphy (Rams), Stephen Nicholas (Falcons), Jason Pierre-Paul (Giants), George Selvie (Rams), Kion Wilson (Chargers).
ROOKIES: David Bedford (Colts), Dontavia Bogan (49ers), Sampson Genus (Packers), Kevin Gidrey (Redskins), Craig Marshall (Giants), Terrell McClain (Panthers), Brandon Peguese (Eagles), Mistral Raymond (Vikings), Jacquian Williams (Giants).
We'll keep you posted on the comings and goings throughout the next month ...
