No, Nate Allen won't wear No. 5 for the Eagles

Having been selected with the main pick acquired in the Donovan McNabb trade, USF safety Nate Allen already has enough pressure on him that he doesn't need to add to that by wearing McNabb's No. 5 jersey in Philadelphia.

"I just found out I'll be wearing No. 29," Allen said Friday night, shortly after the Eagles took him in the second round. "It's an honor just to be considered in the same sentence as guys like Brian Dawkins and Donovan McNabb."

Allen, who watched the draft with family and friends in his hometown of Fort Myers, has a 6 a.m. flight to Philadelphia on Saturday to meet his new team, and he said he was a bit surprised when the Eagles called, moments before taking him with the No. 37 pick in the draft. He had spoken with head coach Andy Reid at the NFL combine, but didn't think of the Eagles as spending any extra time with him in the draft process.

"I really had no idea," Allen said. "I was just waiting, listening, being patient. I got a call while they were on the clock. I had to walk outside, and then when they announced the pick, I heard it erupt inside the house."
