No USF players taken in NFL Draft

After three days, seven rounds and 253 selections, USF football didn't hear any names called in the NFL Draft, missing the cut for the first time since 2006.

The Bulls were the only Division I-A program in Florida not to have a player selected, though they'll have several players sign as undrafted free agents by the end of the night -- check back tonight for updates on Bulls like Darrell Scott, Jerrell Young, Quenton Washington, Jeremiah Warren and Chaz Hine. I'm sure a few USF players will earn a spot in the Bucs' annual rookie minicamp ...

For the record, there were 10 BCS league programs that didn't get a draft pick -- USF, Pittsburgh, Duke, Maryland, UCLA, Washington State, Kansas, Texas Tech, Minnesota and Indiana all missed out. All 10, as can be expected, had losing records in 2011, going a combined 37-86.

-- USF softball swept a doubleheader from Villanova, getting strong pitching in 2-1 and 4-0 wins against Villanova. Sara Nevins took a no-hitter into the fifth inning in the first game and held off a seventh-inning rally that saw the tying run at third base with one out; Nevins combined with Lindsey Richardson and Sam Greiner for the shutout in the second. The Bulls are now 43-8 overall.
