Notes: Dorsey memories, why B.J. wears 7

Lots of leftover notes from this week to share as the Bulls wrap up preparations for Saturday's home game against Charleston Southern. We'll be doing a live blog/chat during the game again -- had nearly 200 people on for last week's, and with this game not on TV, expecting a good turnout there again.

-- Receiver Colby Erskin has the honor of wearing the No. 10 jersey this week as a tribute to Keeley Dorsey, the former USF running back who collapsed and died during a team conditioning workout in January 2007.

"I knew Keeley well, and it's an honor to wear his number," said Erskin, who started the 2006 season as a running back with Dorsey before moving to receiver. "We were pretty good friends. He was the only guy on the team I'd let borrow my car, because he was the only one who could drive stick. I let him borrow it a few times and he brought it back in one piece. I drove with him first, made sure he knew how to do it."

-- Backup QB B.J. Daniels said he wears No. 7 as a nod to Michael Vick, who was his favorite quarterback growing up. Vick is in much the same position in Philadelphia that Daniels is at USF, trying to find ways to get on the field to complement a veteran starting quarterback.

"Growing up, Michael Vick was my favorite player," Daniels said. "He's a very athletic quarterback who has a strong arm. He's fun to watch. As far as my game's concerned, I wear 7 because of him. Our games are a little different. He's faster. That's obvious, but I want to make sure I'm sound on both ends, running and throwing."

-- To follow up on a story we did a month ago, the family and friends of the late Mike Grady, who died trying to save his son's life in a North Carolina river this summer, will be attending Saturday's game as a guest of co-offensive line coach Mike Simmonds. Simmonds helped pull Grady's son, Austin, from the river -- you can read Grady's heroic story here and also find information on how you can help his family.
