Notes: USF baseball plays at Florida tonight
USF baseball gets another shot at Florida tonight with a midweek game in Gainesville, and the Bulls had a front-page presence in the Times Sports section Tuesday with a story from Laura Keeley on Jefferson pitcher Jimmy Herget, who has signed to play with USF.
There's a big Lelo Prado and Tino Martinez presence in the story, and with any talented baseball signee, the only concern for Bulls fans is that he'll turn enough heads in this senior year that the draft will become a factor in his future. We'll have Times writer Antonya English at tonight's USF-UF game as Prado goes for his first win against the Gators.
-- Speaking of USF baseball, there's a good story in today's Winter Haven News Chief on two-sport standout Levi Borders -- whose father Pat played 17 years of major-league baseball -- signing with the Bulls and hinting at being yet another preferred walk-on quarterback. (Again, when I read versatile 6-3 son of major-league catcher, my first curiosity is how high he'll be drafted.)
-- More preps coverage from the Times -- Joey Knight reports that USF men's basketball has already offered Tampa Catholic sophomore forward Chivarsky Corbett a scholarship. He averaged a double-double this past season.
