Notes: Volleyball to play home games at Rec Center

28

July

With the Corral unavailable as the Sun Dome undergoes a $35 million renovation this fall, USF volleyball will play its home matches at the USF Rec Center.

USF had released its 2011 volleyball schedule a month ago -- the Bulls open the season Aug. 26 at New Mexico, with the home opener Sept. 2 against Eastern Kentucky -- but hadn't identified a home court for the team. USF coach Claire Lessinger had initially hoped the Corral (inside the outer perimeter of the Sun Dome) could be still used during the arena's renovations, but they'll move just a few hundred feet to the Rec Center instead.

And while USF hasn't released its men's or women's soccer schedules to the media or posted them on USF's official site, I can now share the schedules for both teams because they were on a pocket schedule I picked up ... at the athletic department today.

USF's brand-new Corbett Soccer Stadium will host its first game with an exhibition between the USF men and the University of Tampa on Aug. 23, with the first official game coming Aug. 26 when the USF women's team plays Indiana to open a seven-game home stand. Here are the schedules for both teams:

USF men's soccer: August 15 -- at Jacksonville (exhibition); 23 -- University of Tampa (exhibition); 27 -- at Wake Forest; September 2 -- Georgia State; 4 -- Robert Morris; 9 -- vs. Bradley (not at home, unclear where); 11 - vs. Dartmouth (not at home, unclear where); 16 -- St. Louis; 18 -- UC Irvine; 25 -- at West Virginia. October 1 -- Providence; 4 -- at Florida Gulf Coast; 8 -- St. John's; 12 -- DePaul; 15 -- at Syracuse; 18 -- at Louisville; 22 -- Villanova; 26 -- Cincinnati; 30 -- at Rutgers.

USF women's soccer: August 9 -- at Florida Gulf Coast (exhibition); 12 -- at Clemson (exhibition); 19 -- at Central Florida; 26 -- Indiana; 28 -- Alabama A&M. September 2 -- Vanderbilt; 4 -- Murray State; 9 -- Akron; 11 -- Jacksonville; 15 -- West Virginia; 18 -- at Pittsburgh; 22 -- Notre Dame; 25 -- DePaul; 30 -- at Cincinnati. October 2 -- at Louisville; 7 -- Connecticut; 9 -- Providence; 14 -- at Syracuse; 16 -- at St. John's; 22 -- at Marquette.
