Ohio point guard: 'Our focus is on Temple'
It's been a dizzying few days of brackets and upsets, and it's certainly just a slip of the tongue, but it was still a bit amusing to see D.J. Cooper, unquestionably Ohio's leader and arguably the Bobcats' best player, sitting at the podium Saturday and speaking to a room of writers and say this, when asked if he thinks much about how a win would mean a trip to the Sweet 16, or if he blocks that out:
"That was our goal, you know, from last week, just to focus on the four teams in our bracket," he said. "That was one of our goals to move on from, beat Michigan, play the winner between South Florida and Temple. And it's Temple, so now our focus is on Temple."
Then an awkward second, and he's nudged by a teammate. "I mean South Florida," Cooper said. "My bad."
Of course, most everything Ohio has said has been very complimentary about the Bulls, such as this from head coach John Groce.
"Playing a very good South Florida ballclub ... watched a lot of film on them and really appreciate how tough they are and how physical they are and how well they defend," Groce said. "Stan's got those kids playing at a pretty high level right now. It's a great challenge for us, but one we're looking forward to tomorrow."
