Oregon coach Kelly stops by USF football practice
I had made a note to ask Skip Holtz today if any other head coaches had stopped by to watch practice this spring, or if he was headed anywhere himself, and sure enough, who should stop by Wednesday's drills but Oregon's Chip Kelly. (Here's a twitpic!)
Kelly was incognito in a New Hampshire shirt but gave away his Oregon presence with neon green shoelaces -- Bulls fans certainly remember his offense from Oregon's rout of USF in the 2007 Sun Bowl in El Paso. He faced USF when he was an assistant at New Hampshire in 1999, when the Bulls won 42-21 in Tampa.
Holtz and Kelly have a long history together -- they went head-to-head in all five of Holtz's seasons as head coach at Connecticut from 1994-98, when Kelly was an assistant at UNH. Holtz went 1-4 against his New Hampshire teams, taking his first road loss as a head coach against the Wildcats in 1994.
We'll try to get more on the story, but looks like Kelly is just making the rounds -- he was a guest at Miami's spring practice on Tuesday as well, and spent time with former Bucs coach Jon Gruden while he was in Tampa.
