On a day when Winthrop's Gregg Marshall is getting the headlines as a top candidate for USF's men's basketball job, South Alabama's John Pelphrey -- remember him from just two days ago? -- issued a brief statement, most likely to lessen the number of media calls he isn't returning:

"I have met informally with South Florida about their opening. That's where we stand right now," he said in a statement released through USA's sports information department.
