Persistence pays off for USF linebacker Spires



spiresmug.jpgFriday's Times has a feature on USF senior linebacker Donte Spires, and the long path he's taken to get back to college football after two years away from the game. Spires' story is a lesson in persistence, and he's worked hard to get the scholarship he was given by Skip Holtz earlier this month.


Spires is likely the No. 2 strongside linebacker behind fellow senior Jacquian Williams, but the Bulls expect to be able to rotate as many as seven linebackers in and out of games, especially early in the season as they're still tinkering with their lineup and finding the best combination of players.
