PFW names USF's Pierre-Paul as All-American
Pro Football Weekly has announced its 2009 All-America team, and USF junior Jason Pierre-Paul is one of two defensive ends selected after a breakout first season with the Bulls.
USF senior cornerback Jerome Murphy was also chosen as an "honorable mention" at corner, one of eight players so honored after the two cornerbacks named to the All-America team.
PFW's selection process is different from most All-America teams, honoring "the most talented players in college football ... based on considerable feedback from NFL evaluators, taking into consideration a player's puer talent and contribution to his team. ... PFW places an extra premium on true talent and draft value in the selection process."
Pierre-Paul, who has submitted his name to the NFL's advisory panel for underclassmen, has been projected by some draft experts as a first-round pick should he enter the draft and skip his senior season at USF.
Pierre-Paul was the only Big East player named to the PFW All-America team. Pittsburgh running back Dion Lewis, Cincinnati receiver Mardy Gilyard, Pittsburgh tight end Dorin Dickerson, Rutgers tackle Anthony Davis, Pittsburgh defensive end Greg Romeus and Rutgers cornerback Devin McCourty joined Murphy as honorable mentions.
