Quick weight loss: RB Aycock is 233, not 253

When USF's rosters were released on Wednesday night, we specifically asked if Dontae Aycock's weight was correct at 253 pounds, up 29 from his spring roster weight. Again, Thursday morning, we checked to make sure it wasn't a typo. So of course, when we asked Skip Holtz about the Auburn transfer's weight after practice on Thursday evening, we learned that he was 233 pounds, not 253.

The coach will still like to see his sophomore drop a few pounds over the next month.

"He's a little heavier right now. He's going to have to cut some weight with where he is," Holtz said.

Offensive coordinator Todd Fitch said Aycock isn't in the shape he needs to be in, but he understands what he needs to do to get there.

"He has great athletic ability, light on his feet, nice hands. He just has to get his body back in condition to play the game," Fitch said. "That layoff of a year, he had a little knee procedure done, and it set him back. Once he gets himself in shape, he has a lot of talent. You've got yourself to that point, too. He knows where he's at. He knows what he has to do. If he can do those things, I think he'll be a great addition for us."

Another Bull that's had a healthy summer is true freshman tight end Tye Turner, who is in a good position to play this fall, but came in at 266 pounds, up 21 from what USF listed him at on signing day in February. He's been on campus for the last six weeks, but coaches had limited contact with players until this week.

"He's a little heavy right now," Holtz said. "This is the first time we've seen him. That happens to freshmen. Q (Quinterrius) Eatmon came in at 360, and he's playing now at 310. A lot of them who've been home since February, they look at the depth chart and say 'Wow, I've got to weigh 260 as a tight end. I've got to weigh 300 as an offensive lineman.' They try to put on those table muscles and they don't work real well out here on the practice field. There are some guys that have to get in shape, cut a little bit of weight. We've got some guys that really put on some good weight and look great. Guys like Ryne Giddins have gotten significantly bigger. Guys like Darrell Scott have gotten significantly bigger."
