RB Taylor (grades), LB Barrington (injury) out

I'm off for a few days, but want to leave a few links before I go. USF baseball, after a 3-12 start, has won four of its last five, taking two of three from Mercer this weekend. Sunday's 13-4 win showed how the Bulls' bats have come alive, with three hits each from Ryan Lockwood and Eric Sim, and three RBIs by Sim and Stephen Hunt. The Bulls have North Florida at home Tuesday, then open Big East play at home this weekend against Notre Dame.

-- Softball, meanwhile, drops to 13-13 after an 8-7 loss to Towson on Sunday. Alison Savarese continues an amazing start at the plate -- she has 35 RBIs in 26 games, putting her on pace to challenge the school record of 82, set by Holly Groves in 2004. The second-best RBI total in USF history, for perspective, is 53, which is just a few weeks away the way Savarese is hitting.

-- New mock drafts:'s Bucky Brooks, another guy who had USF's Jason Pierre-Paul going third to the Bucs, now has the defensive end clear down at No. 26 to Arizona, with no explanation for the dropoff in the past month. "As one of the top athletes in the draft, Pierre-Paul has the potential to blossom into a dynamic edge rusher as a pro," he writes.

-- Brooks' colleague, Pat Kirwan, has been a little steadier in his projections -- his first mock had JPP going 19th to the Falcons, then 24th to the Eagles, and he now has Pierre-Paul going 21st to the Bengals. He also has USF safety Nate Allen going 27th to the Cowboys, where he'd be reunited with former Bulls teammate Mike Jenkins.

-- Good writeup from the Bradenton Herald's Alan Dell on USF commitment Shedrick Haynes, who has bounced back from a serious knee injury to shine at Lackawanna College in Pennsylvania.

-- In case you missed it, the Times' Tom Jones wrote about USF football in his rundown Saturday of Tampa sports that can be seen as "glass half full" or "glass half empty."
