Recruiting: DE Powe latest to commit
Add another oral commitment to USF's quickly growing list: Darren Powe, a defensive end from Mayo Lafayette, has accepted a scholarship offer to play for the Bulls next season.
I talked with his coach at Lafayette, Joey Pearson, this morning, to get confirmation on what USFnation.com first reported Monday night. Powe (pronounced POE) is 6-foot-3, 235 pounds, has eight sacks this year, 16 tackles for loss, 78 total tackles, which is a big number for a d-lineman. Had offers from Cincinnati, Southern Miss and East Carolina. Oh, and Pearson said he's a cousin of former Florida d-line standout Reggie McGrew, who was a first-round NFL draft pick.
His teammate and friend, Aaron Gresham, is also considering USF but won't make a decision until he makes official visits to USF, Louisville and Cincy. Powe and Lafayette are 10-0, play host to Port St. Joe in first round of the playoffs Friday, looking to avenge their only loss in the past two seasons. I've got two other rumored commitments I'm chasing down this afternoon.
