Reminder: Live USF chat here today at noon
Exciting news about today's live USF chat right here at noon -- we're using the same program that USF has used for its live chats, so the experience will be much more like the conventional chatroom -- should make it easier to get to even more questions in the hour or more I'll be chatting.
If you can't make it back here at noon, by all means drop in a question in the comments here this morning, and I'll do my best to get to those during the chat as well. Before getting to some links, I'll jumpstart the conversation -- today, the Bulls split their football coaches into two teams and draft the rosters for Saturday's spring game.
My challenge for you: Tell me your top five picks in order, and remember that defensive end George Selvie gets the All-America treatment and will be held out, and senior quarterback Matt Grothe isn't likely to play more than a few series himself.
With those two out and blitzing limited against injury-depleted offensive lines, who deserves the top pick? Perhaps Kion Wilson, who has established himself as the best linebacker, or Jerome Murphy, by far the most experienced cornerback? A healthy Mike Ford, arguably the most dangerous offensive player, or a playmaking receiver like Dontavia Bogan or Carlton Mitchell? Is one of USF's redshirt freshman quarterbacks, B.J. Daniels or Evan Landi, worth a high pick?
-- The Miami Herald, ranking the state's top NFL Draft prospects, projects former USF linebacker Tyrone McKenzie to go in the third or fourth round, with receiver Taurus Johnson just missing the draft and getting a contract as an undrafted free agent.
-- The annual WNBA Draft is today, and USF coach Jose Fernandez believes that guard Shantia Grace, a four-year starter and the No. 2 career scorer in Bulls history, could be taken late in today's draft. WNBA.com's latest mock draft projects two Big East players -- UConn's Renee Montgomery and Louisville's Angel McCoughtry -- in the first three picks. Pitt's Shavonte Zellous and Rutgers' Kia Vaughn are also projected as first-round picks. Grace is not listed among 75 players in the WNBA.com draft database.
-- USF has scaled back its "Around the Horns" summer tour, announcing four dates for the meet-and-greet golf-and-dinner event with Bulls coaches. The Pinellas event leads off the tour on June 5, with the Hillsborough gathering wrapping the schedule up on June 29. The Bulls had scheduled dinner-only events in the Fort Myers/Naples area and in south Florida last summer.
-- USF's official site has a short Q&A with former Bulls baseball coach and Hall of Famer Robin Roberts.
-- USF's softball team is taking part in a charity softball game April 25 at Steinbrenner Field to benefit the Police Athletic League of Tampa. Tickets start at $8, and the celebrity guest list is a good one -- former Bucs players Marcus Jones (now in mixed martial arts), Anthony Becht and Michael Bennett are confirmed, and Carnell "Cadillac" Williams is tentatively scheduled to be there as well. At least two former major-leaguers will be there, as well as local radio DJs and other celebrities. Here's the official site for the game.
