Safety Burnett ineligible for bowl

Senior Jeremy Burnett, the Bulls' starting strong safety and one of the defense's toughest hitters, has been ruled ineligible for USF's game Saturday against East Carolina in the Bowl in Birmingham, Ala.

USF didn't specify a reason for Burnett's ineligibility Tuesday, but Monday night, coach Jim Leavitt had said his team had only one player who might not make the trip due to academic difficulties related to one class during the fall semester.

Sophomores Carlton Williams and Danny Verpaele have split the starting role at free safety, so it's expected that both of them will start at safety in Burnett's absence.
