Safety Young earns Big East defensive weekly honor

USF senior safety Jerrell Young, who had a hand in two of the Bulls' five takeaways in Saturday's win at No. 16 Notre Dame, was honored as the Big East Defensive Player of the Week.

Young, a Gibbs graduate, stripped the ball loose at the goal line from Fighting Irish running back Jonas Gray, and cornerback Kayvon Webster scooped up the loose ball and went 96 yards for the game's first touchdown, the longest defensive score in USF's 15-year history. Young added an interception in the fourth quarter, helping the Bulls hold off Notre Dame for the historic win.

USF kicker Maikon Bonani, who went 3-for-4 on field goals and matched his career long with a 49-yarder, was named to the Big East's weekly honor roll. Bonani's only miss came from 52 yards, and his kicks helped the Bulls to a 16-0 halftime lead.
