Shelton: Selmon's greatness best seen off the field
Good morning from Chicago -- game day is finally here for USF football, and I'm heading up to South Bend in a moment, but there's certain to be a different atmosphere than expected for Bulls fans, who are praying for one of the key founders of their football program.
Gary Shelton writes in Saturday's Times that Lee Roy Selmon's greatness on the football field still wasn't close to the man people knew off the field in Tampa for the last 35 years. Thoughts and prayers to those closest to Selmon, who already knew that very well. The same goes for USF's football players, who knew Selmon as one of the program's biggest supporters in every way.
"Another great and glorious man has left us," walk-on receiver Jordan Duval wrote Friday on Twitter.com, where punter Justin Brockhaus-Kann asked his Twitter followers to "Please pray for Lee Roy Selmon."
We'll have more from South Bend this afternoon in the hours leading up to today's opener for USF and No. 16 Notre Dame.
