Shelton: Yes, Leavitt deserves to coach again
Times columnist Gary Shelton writes that former USF coach Jim Leavitt deserves a chance to coach again, despite the actions that led to his firing from the Bulls program he spent 14 years building.
"If sports teach us nothing else, it is this: time passes, controversies fade, wounds heal," Shelton writes. "No one should begrudge USF for moving on, or for Leavitt as he tries to do the same. Yeah, for the right job, I'd hire Leavitt. Someone ought to."
-- Former USF receiver Carlton Mitchell has been invited to participate in the the NFL combine workouts, which begin Feb. 17 in Indianapolis. Underclassmen who entered the draft are starting to get invitations, and while USF defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul has not yet gotten an invitation, he's certainly expected to as a projected first-round pick. Pierre-Paul's stock is high enough, the better question might be whether he intends to run all the various speed and agility drills in Indianapolis. ...
