Spring game: It's 'Bulls' vs. 'South Florida'
More details about Saturday's spring football game at Raymond James Stadium, with rosters announced Thursday afternoon and new team names: "Bulls" vs. "South Florida," perhaps for the right to be called "USF" in next spring's scrimmage.
The "Bulls" roster features the No. 2 offense and No. 1 defense, while the "South Florida" squad has the No. 1 offense and No. 2 defense. USF opted not to release a new depth chart, but you can pick up on some quirky developments from the breakdown of the two rosters:
-- "South Florida" has quarterback B.J. Daniels and running back Mo Plancher, plus a sturdy offensive line: Sampson Genus, Chaz Hine, Jake Sims, Jeremiah Warren and Jamar Bass. And receivers A.J. Love and Dontavia Bogan. And some likely starters on defense who are currently working with the second unit -- cornerback Kayvon Webster, linebacker Sam Barrington and safety Jon Lejiste -- upgrade the No. 2 defense.
-- "Bulls" has a solid front four in ends Craig Marshall and David Bedford and tackles Terrell McClain and Keith McCaskill, with senior outside linebackers Sabbath Joseph and Jacquian Williams, sophomore Mike Lanaris in the middle, and a solid secondary with corners Quenton Washington and George Baker (still working first-team) and safeties Jerrell Young and Mistral Raymond.
The "Bulls" offense has walk-on QB Ryan Eppes, with Demetris Murray as his top running back and Sterling Griffin, Evan Landi and Patrick Richardson as his top receivers. Hard to say how well will they fare behind the second offensive line: center Kevin McCaskill, tackle Mark Popek, guard Danous Estenor and two others with little college experience. If I'm making trades, I'd give the "Bulls" line one more solid o-lineman.
