St. Petersburg Bowl nearly sold out
Fans from Central Florida and Rutgers have gobbled up enough tickets in the past 10 days that the second-ever St. Petersburg Bowl, set for Dec. 19 at Tropicana Field, is within 750 tickets of selling out, executive director Brett Dulaney said Friday.
UCF has bought more than 14,000 tickets, well above its 10,000-seat allotment, and while Dulaney said that Rutgers returned "a couple thousand" tickets from its allotment, he said most of those have since been sold.
The bowl, which will be called the Beef O'Brady's Bowl thanks to a sponsorship announced this week, has a seating capacity of 28,000 fans, as some upper-level seats available last year have been removed because the stadium's rings partially obscured the view of the field. Last year's game between USF and Memphis drew a crowd announced as 25,205, though considerably less were actually in attendance.
