Storm cut ex-USF QB Gregory, wait on Grothe
There's one less former USF player on the Tampa Bay Storm roster, as the Arena Football League team released quarterback Grant Gregory on Thursday to make room for defensive back Marcus Jefferson.
The Storm have had former USF quarterback Matt Grothe in town for a two-day workout this week, but won't make any decisions about signing him until next week. Grothe is trying to latch on with the Arena team after brief stints and workouts in the NFL, UFL and CFL in the past 14 months.
USF still has a presence on the Storm roster -- receivers Huey Whittaker and Amarri Jackson are the team's top two targets, with Whittaker getting 103 catches and 21 touchdowns and Jackson getting 57 catches and 14 scores. Defensive linemen Jarriett Buie and Terrence Royal are also on roster with the Storm. Gregory, whose run as a starting quarterback ended with a foot injury five games ago, had 20 touchdowns and seven interceptions this season.
