Sunday USF links: Schuyler, Bonani and more
With no practice today, shouldn't be too much news today, but there's a few links to share from USF's Fan Fest and media day and elsewhere.
-- HBO's Real Sports has the first interview with former USF walk-on Nick Schuyler on Tuesday night, but the New York Post already has seen the interview and has details of Schuyler's ordeal at sea, holding on to a capsized boat in the Gulf of Mexico.
-- For media outlets who weren't at practice Wednesday, Saturday was the first opportunity to interview injured kicker Maikon Bonani, who was at Fan Fest and was warmly greeted by USF fans. ABC Action News has a story, as does the Lakeland Ledger. The Ledger also has a story on Lakeland's Jamar Taylor.
-- NFL update: Quiet debuts for former USF stars Andre Hall and Taurus Johnson against each other Saturday night. Hall, trying to make the Texans' roster, had six carries for 15 yards, while Johnson had one catch for 7 yards for the Chiefs. Trae Williams had one tackle for the Eagles on Thursday, and Craig Kobel had one for the Jets, while Jarriett Buie had an assisted tackle for the Bucs, who had Marc Dile as their first sub on the offensive line. Linebacker Stephen Nicholas, more certain of a roster spot in Atlanta, had three tackles for the Falcons, with Detroit's Anthony Henry having four total tackles in the same game.
- The Post and Courier in South Carolina writes about Charleston Southern's tour of Florida, with games at Florida and USF this fall, Miami last season and Central Florida and Florida State in 2011. We'll have more this week on USF's first three games and what the scores might look like ...
-- Collegefootballsaturday.com does not have Matt Grothe among its top 20 quarterbacks in college football, nor Cincinnati's Tony Pike or any quarterback on USF's schedule this fall.
