T-Mac on hitting Slaton and the Pat White diet
Greetings from Pittsburgh, where I'm staying before driving down to Morgantown for Saturday's USF-West Virginia game. Best leftover quotes that didn't get into the paper this week? They're from linebacker Tyrone McKenzie, who's never short on confidence ...
Q: What do you remember about last year's game against West Virginia?
A: Last year, what I remember is my big hit on (running back Steve) Slaton. I remember that big hit on Slaton. That really helped us. We made a lot of big plays on defense and on offense. There's different factors, but just getting the win was the greatest moment.
Q: Where does the Slaton hit rank for you in terms of your all-time hits?
A: Since it's on Youtube, I'd have to say it's in my top five, maybe ranking as No. 2.
Q: So what's No. 1?
A: What beats it is my game-winning hit against (Missouri QB) Chase Daniel when I played at Iowa State.
Q: Talk about Pat White and the challenges of containing him.
A: It's a challenge. Pat White's a great quarterback. He's going to get after you and run around. One of the things you have to game-plan as a player is just to cut down on extra meals during the week when you're playing West Virginia, because you're going to be running the entire game.
Q: So you're not eating as much?
A: I'm eating. I just cut back a meal here or there. More salads.
