Tahoe! Holtz accepts spot in celebrity golf tourney
USF football coach Skip Holtz has another trip to Nevada planned for 2012. Two months before his Bulls play in Reno, Holtz has accepted a spot in the American Century Championship celebrity golf tournament later this month in Lake Tahoe, joining the likes of Michael Jordan, Emmitt Smith and Jerry Rice.
The 54-hole tournament is set for July 20-22, and it carries a purse of $600,000, while raising money and awareness for the LIVESTRONG campaign. This is Holtz's first time playing in the tournament, and Harrah's Tahoe has installed the Bulls coach as a 50-to-1 shot to win, with the favorite being Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo at 5-to-2.
Holtz isn't the only prominent coach in the field -- his good friend, former Florida and current Ohio State coach Urban Meyer, is also competing, as is South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier, as well as NFL coaches like Mike Shanahan and Sean Peyton. There's a full list of accepted invitations on the tournament's official site.
