Teammates set up Facebook tribute for Grothe
USF senior quarterback Matt Grothe has more than 4,500 friends on Facebook.com, so it's not like he needs any more support on the site. Still, several teammates have set up a tribute group to thank Grothe, whose college career abruptly ended with a torn ACL in his left knee in Saturday's win against Charleston Southern.
Fans on Facebook can find the tribute page -- "Bulls Country is Grothe Country" -- by clicking here. His roommate, tight end Ben Busbee, and current and former teammates Mark Popek, Evan Landi and Eric Setser, are among the administrators for the group.
"This group is meant to encourage Bulls fans to thank QB Matt Grothe for everything he has done for our team," the page reads. "For the next week, find a picture of Matt to post as your profile pic to thank him for his commitment to USF Bulls football. ... BJ Daniels will do a great job in Matt's place, but we need to thank the guy who has brought us this far. Go Bulls!"
It was Grothe who taught us about "Poke the Opposing Team's Quarterback" a few years back, so it's good to see fans mobilized online for a compelling cause ... And we'll throw in a plug to this blog's presence on Facebook, which allows you to get an update on your wall, well, most of the time we post an update here.
