Three USF teams earn APR recognition from NCAA
Three USF teams -- volleyball, women's golf and women's tennis -- have earned perfect scores on the NCAA's Academic Progress Rate and have been recognized by the NCAA for finishing among the top 10 percent nationally in their sports.
The APR equally weighs a team's ability to keep its scholarship athletes eligible and retained in school and on course to graduate -- a perfect score of 1000 means that every athlete over a four-year period (currently from 2007-08 through 2010-11) stayed eligible and with the program, or left while maintaining a grade-point average of at least 2.6.
These are also among USF's more successful programs -- women's golf won a Big East title this spring, and women's tennis took second, while volleyball has reached the Big East tournament in four of the last five years. The full APR results for all sports will be available on Wednesday, and USF is not expected to face any significant sanctions.
