Tragedy strikes family of USF walk-on Sitton
Just two days before USF football players report for the start of preseason camp, the Bulls were mourning a family tragedy Friday, as the brother of USF walk-on receiver Jonny Sitton, Army Sgt. Matthew Steven Sitton, was killed while serving in the U.S. Army in Afghanistan.
Here's the full story from the Times' Laura C. Morel -- Matt Sitton was only 26, with a wife and 9-month-old baby at home. USF coach Skip Holtz took a moment on Twitter to say his thoughts and prayers were with the Sitton family in Largo. "Appreciate the incredible people in the Military sacrificing their life daily, so we can put our head on the pillow as free men and women!" he wrote.
Jonny Sitton, who briefly held USF's punt-return job during the 2010 season, had left the Bulls to play last season at NAIA Shorter University, but returned to the team this summer. Holtz said he'll have as much time as he needs before rejoining his teammates at practice.
