Tresey in for second interview with Leavitt
For all the craziness of the past two weeks, USF's search for a new defensive coordinator is now back where it started, as former Cincinnati defensive coordinator Joe Tresey is back in Tampa today for a second interview with Bulls coach Jim Leavitt.
Tresey, whose defense has been a big part of wins against USF in the past two seasons, had been the Bearcats' coordinator for the past two seasons. Coach Brian Kelly went in another direction after Cincinnati won a Big East championship, changing coordinators as he shifted to a 3-4 defense for 2009. Tresey had been reported as being strongly considered for Miami's defensive coordinator opening.
Tresey interviewed with Leavitt just days after Wally Burnham resigned to become defensive coordinator at Iowa State, but is not believed to have been initially offered the coordinator job. That could change today as he and Leavitt meet for a second time.
Tresey (pronounced "Tracy") could not be immediately reached for comment Tuesday afternoon.
-- Iowa State secondary coach Chris Ash said Tuesday night that he was offered a job by Leavitt to be co-defensive coordinator, but has opted to stay at Iowa State.
