Trustees OK financing for $30-million upgrades
USF's Board of Trustees on Thursday approved the athletic department's financial proposal for $30-million in facility upgrades, another major step toward an ambitious remodeling of the Bulls' homes for basketball, baseball, softball and football.
The final hurdle to be cleared before USF can begin construction comes next week, when the proposal must be approved by the university's Board of Governors.
USF also released a new rendering of the proposed athletic district, with some significant tweaks -- the basketball practice facility, once earmarked for the north side of the Sun Dome, will be on the south (Fowler Avenue) side of the arena. The new baseball stadium, once facing the same direction as the current Red McEwen Field, gets a 90-degree turn, with home plate now in the right-field corner and facing northeast. And softball, once penciled in east of the baseball stadium, will now be south of that field, facing southeast.
