USF assistant to be head coach at Air Force

Andreaw USF women's basketball assistant Andrea Williams is leaving the Bulls after two seasons to become head coach at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.

Williams, 38, is the first USF assistant to land a college head coaching job since current head coach Jose Fernandez was promoted 10 years ago. Williams came to USF from Jacksonville, where she spent the previous four seasons, and she has previous military coaching experience from two seasons on the staff at Navy.

There has been previous interest in Fernandez's assistants this offseason, as associate head coach Jeff Osterman was a finalist for the head coaching job at Albany, which ultimately went to Katie Abrahamson-Henderson.

Williams has a challenge awaiting her at Air Force, which went 3-27 last season and was winless in conference play. She takes over for Ardie McInelly, who was fired in March after going 57-201 in nine seasons in Colorado Springs. The Falcons have lost 37 consecutive games against Mountain West opponents.
