USF baseball: One win = Big East champions
After dropping two games at Notre Dame and seeing its lead dwindle to a half-game, USF's baseball team picked up a huge 6-5 win Sunday, and the Bulls now need to win just one of three games at Louisville next weekend to clinch the Big East's regular-season championship.
The Bulls (31-19, 18-6) took a 5-3 lead in the eighth, only to see Notre Dame tie the game in the bottom of the inning, but freshman catcher Daniel Rockhold got an RBI single in the ninth for the winning margin. Reliever Joe Cole pitched a perfect ninth, including two strikeouts, to earn the win.
USF now has a 1.5-game lead on Louisville, which lost to St. John's on Sunday. It's still a huge final weekend for the Bulls, who will bring coach Lelo Prado back to face his former team with the conference title on the line. The regular-season championship would be USF's first in four seasons in the Big East, and would make the Bulls lthe team to beat in the league tournament in Clearwater in two weeks.
