USF commitment has suspension reduced
USF commitment Brynjar Gudmundsson, an offensive lineman from Wellington High who was accused by officials of throwing a punch in a game two weeks ago, has had his suspension reduced from five games to two by the Florida High School Athletic Association.
Gudmundsson, who sat out his team's game last week, can complete his suspension this weekend and return to the team. His coach at Wellington, Chris Romano, said earlier this week that Gudmundsson was written up for throwing a punch, but that he had a "different interpretation" of what happened. Romano did not return a call seeking comment Thursday.
It's unknown whether the incident will have any impact on his future at USF, but the reduction in the suspension makes it less likely it will interfere with his college plans. The Bulls already have 15 commitments for the Class of 2011, with 19 scholarships believed to be available, plus any that come available through normal off-season attrition.
