USF fans in Tampa have a new place to listen to Bulls football and men's basketball games, as USF announced Thursday that it has signed a multiyear deal to make 98.7 The Fan the new flagship station of its radio network, becoming a central part of the FM station's lineup.

The station officially flipped the switch on its new format at noon Thursday from the Big East room in USF's Selmon Athletic Center, with athletic director Doug Woolard, football coach Skip Holtz and men's basketball coach Stan Heath among the key Bulls figures in attendance. The Fan's new broadcast lineup includes Times columnist Gary Shelton weekdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with Justin "The Commish" Pawlowski.

The new agreement with the CBS Radio Network will give key Bulls teams a permanent radio home with a sports format -- for the past four years have had talk-radio 970 as the football flagship, with basketball broadcasts bouncing around Clear Channel's different Tampa stations depending on conflicts with other broadcasts. USF's women's basketball and baseball games will now be carried live on CBS affiliate 1010 AM as well.

USF's football radio lineup itself won't change, with Jim Louk and Mark Robinson handling play-by-play and color commentary, Mike Pepper doing sideline reporting and Jim Lighthall and Pawlowski hosting the pregame and postgame shows.

And as part of the unveiling with 98.7, USF is offering tickets for the football opener Sept. 1 against Chattanooga for $9.87 through Ticketmaster.com.
