USF-FIU kickoff set for 5 p.m. in Miami
Loyal readers of the blog know we like early kickoffs, even if it means blistering midday heat for you guys in the stands. So now we have a happy medium: USF has announced that the Sept. 20 game at Florida International will have a 5 p.m. kickoff, with a broadcast on ESPNU.
It'll be the grand opening for FIU Stadium, which should have a quaint 18,000 fans on hand. The game is still not sold out, as FIU is only selling tickets as part of their season tickets, which are just $100 and are still available as of Monday afternoon. FIU is holding an open scrimmage at the stadium Thursday night to give fans a sneak preview of the new stadium.
-- One more note: USF has gotten good news about a hardship waiver from the NCAA ... but it has nothing to do with basketball forward Gus Gilchrist. The Bulls did, however, get a waiver for walk-on running back Joel Miller, who was at The Citadel last fall and transferred to USF in January. Miller, a redshirt freshman from Wharton, got the waiver so he didn't have to sit out a year and made his USF debut on special teams Saturday against UCF.
